Adopt-A-Park

Created in 1981, the Adopt-A-Park program is a citywide volunteer program that enables individuals, neighborhood associations, civic groups, and businesses to assist in the general care and maintenance of parks and other green spaces in Oklahoma City. This grassroots program was a pacesetter for many other cities across America. Participants gain a sense of ownership and pride for their efforts while saving scarce City maintenance dollars. Any Oklahoma City park or public median may be adopted.

Adoptions may involve twice monthly litter control, litter control and supplemental or exclusive mowing, existing flowerbed planting and maintenance, or landscape improvements and year-round care. Participants are recognized, if they wish, with attractive signs. Every year, adopted sites are evaluated and awards are given to the adopters with the highest scoring areas. Currently, nearly 100 areas are adopted with approximately 900 volunteers participating in the program.

Anyone: Individuals, corporations and businesses, neighborhood associations, church groups, community service organizations, youth groups, families, and friends!

What do adopters do?

Pick up litter (a minimum of twice monthly), perform supplemental or exclusive mowing, plant and maintain existing flowerbeds, make landscape improvements and other types of year-round care and maintenance.

Adopting a park gives you the satisfaction of knowing that you are maintaining a beautiful place that everyone can enjoy. It gives recognition to your special gift of time, talent, and labor with a sign at your adopted site displaying your name or the name of your group or organization. It lets people know that you care about our city.

How do I sign up?

Signing up is easy! For a list of available parks or to inquire about any other location or specific type of adoption, simply call the OKC Beautiful office at 525-8822 and tell us you want to participate.
